How to hide Shortcuts app notifications on iPhone

You built a slick iPhone automation — the lights dim at sunset, or your commute playlist starts when CarPlay connects. Then every single run slaps a "Shortcuts" banner across your screen, interrupting whatever you were doing. Apple never gave Shortcuts a proper notification switch in Settings, which is why that banner feels unkillable. It isn’t: a Screen Time workaround hides Shortcuts notifications, and newer iOS versions add a per-automation option too. Here’s both methods explained.

How to hide Shortcuts notifications on iPhone

Since Shortcuts doesn’t appear in Settings, then Notifications, we go through Screen Time instead:

  1. Open Screen Time. Go to Settings, then Screen Time. If it’s switched off, turn it on — the workaround needs usage data to find the app. Don’t worry, you don’t have to set any limits.
  2. Open App & Website Activity. Tap "See All App & Website Activity." If there’s no data yet, use your iPhone normally for a while — or run a Shortcut manually so it shows up in the list.
  3. Scroll to the Notifications section. At the bottom of the activity screen you’ll find a Notifications section listing every app that recently posted notifications.
  4. Find the Shortcuts app. Look for Shortcuts in that list. If it isn’t there, switch the time period at the top — try This Week — until it appears. It only shows up after the app has actually posted a notification.
  5. Turn off its notifications. Tap Shortcuts, then switch off Allow Notifications. The banners stop immediately. Apple’s Shortcuts User Guide documents automations officially (though not this workaround) — MacRumors has a walkthrough of turning off automation notifications covering the same steps.
  6. Remember the catch. This lasts until you restart your iPhone — after a reboot, repeat the steps. It’s a minor chore, but it beats the banner.

If it still doesn’t work

On newer iOS versions, check the per-automation option first: open Shortcuts, tap Automation at the bottom, tap an automation, and look for "Notify When Run" — switching that off silences individual automations without the Screen Time dance. If Shortcuts never appears in Screen Time, make sure its notification fired at least once by running the automation manually. And note this applies to iPad too — same app, same workaround.

FAQ

Why isn’t Shortcuts listed in the Notifications settings?

Apple simply never put it there — automation banners were designed as run confirmations, not notifications. The Screen Time route is the only system-level off switch, which is exactly why this workaround exists.

Will hiding the banner break my automations?

No — it only hides the banner. The automation still runs exactly as before. If you enjoy taming iOS behaviors, you might also like how to disable the quick camera launch from the iPhone lock screen.

The bottom line

Apple never added a Shortcuts notification switch, but the Screen Time workaround gets you nearly all the way there — just redo it after reboots, or use per-automation Notify When Run on newer iOS.
